Closing the Loophole on Hemp-Drived Cannabis Products: A Public Health Priority

The 2018 Federal Farm Bill legalized the growth and sale of hemp. It contains a loophole which opens the door for the unregulated production and marketing of hemp-derived psychotropic cannabis products. These products are sold online and in brick-and-mortar stores in multiple forms and are often marketed in ways that appeal to youth. The authors conclude: "State and federal regulators should prioritize new hemp policies that ensure prohibition of sale to minors; set requirememts for testing, packaging, and labeling; and place limits on potency and concentration of psychotropic products."
